A “gold” open access program adopted this year by SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, meets the needs of authors in the UK and elsewhere to ensure open-access publication for peer-reviewed articles reporting on research that has been supported by public funding. The SPIE open-access option is available to authors publishing in any of its journals, and is the latest in the not-for-profit publisher’s programs providing broad dissemination of optics and photonics literature.
